Brace Yourselves! The Don Pepin Garcia Blue Cigars Will Rock Your World!

The Don Pepin Garcia Blue blend of cigars is full of surprises. This sexy cigar is hand-rolled in the El Rey de Los Habanos factory in Miami by none other than the master himself, Cuban-born Jose Pepin Garcia, the patriarch of the Garcia Family.  The Garcias proudly stand behind many notable cigars they have blended and helped create for others like the Padilla Miami 8/11, Tatuaje for Pete Johnson, My Father line, 5 Vegas, amongst others, but Jose’s Blue line is very unique and special indeed.

Paying great attention to details, Jose blows this blend out of the park with the Nicaraguan tobacco lineup he blends the Don Pepin Garcia Blue cigars with.  Using Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo long-filler tobacco leaves and a Nicaraguan Corojo Oscuro wrapper, he has managed to create a complex and intoxicating stogie.  We have smoked complex cigars, but the Don Pepin Garcia Blue might take the cake on complexity.  While this blend falls under full-flavored, medium-to-full bodied in strength, it can still be enjoyed by most cigar smokers as it is smooth and not overpowering on the palate.

Don Pepin Garcia Blue Delicias Cigars at My Discount Cigars

Don Pepin Garcia Blue Delicias Cigars

Country of Origin: Nicaragua/USA

Flavor: Medium to Full Bodied

Wrapper: Corojo Oscuro

Binder: Nicaragua

Filler: Nicaragua

Each Don Pepin Garcia Blue cigar comes adorned with an intricate blue band and gold font and a blue satin ribbon on its foot. Their packaging was recently redesigned and the Blue line is offered in handcrafted cedar boxes of 25 sticks, but is also offered in 5-cigar samplers or as a single cigar sampler. It’s great that they are offered up as single sticks or 5-cigar samplers, but be fairly warned, they are made in extremely limited quantities so we highly recommend going for a full box of them if you can find them.  At a fairly reasonable price-point (from $7 – $9 per stick) it’s a very smart investment to get the full box.

Sizes Available:

Delicias (7 x 50, Churchill)

Exclusivos (9 ¼ x 48, Gran Corona)

Generosos (6 x 50, Toro)

Imperiales (6 ½ x 52T, Torpedo)

Invictos (5 x 50, Robusto)

Have we mentioned that the Don Pepin Garcia Blue cigars were rated 93 by Cigar Aficionado and named as 2008’s ‘Top 25 Cigars of the Year by them, and rightfully so!  Upon lighting the Don Pepin Garcia Blue the thick smoke begins oozing, even when it just rests in your ashtray it continues billowing thick wafts of smoke… such a sexy characteristic of a cigar, non?  Upon lighting up the first part of the Don Pepin Garcia Blue cigar you might detect a decent amount of black pepper and an earthy undertone.  As you smoke your way through the second third of the cigar the savory meatiness of it becomes more pronounced.  And on the last third of the smoke a unique woody and nutty flavoring becomes most prominent.  You can definitely detect the flavors changing throughout, but rest assured that the burn is nearly perfect, as is its ash.  If this isn’t a complex stogie, we don’t know what is!

Brace yourself for a very eventful smoke when you light up a Don Pepin Garcia Blue cigar!!!  Enjoy!

Oliva Serie V Melanio: Voted 2013′s Cigar of the Year by Cigar Snob!

You might have smoked Oliva cigars, maybe even a Serie V blend, but have you tried an Oliva Serie V Melanio cigar yet?  By the time you’re done reading this, you will wish you had one!

Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider have ranked this line in the high 90s the last 3 years in a row and Cigar Snob actually voted the Melanio blend as the “Cigar of the Year” for 2013!  Similar to its predecessor, the original Serie V, delve into one of the 5 vitolas offered and taste the difference of its richness and robustness of the Nicaraguan filler and binder (grown in the Jalapa region, which gives off a natural sweetness and focuses less on strength as the original Serie V does), and the Ecuadorian Sumatran wrapper.

Oliva Serie V Melanio Cigars at My Discount Cigar

Oliva Serie V Melanio Cigars at My Discount Cigar

The Oliva Serie V Melanio cigars are box-pressed and come in boxes of 10 cigars or as single cigar samplers in the following sizes:

Torpedo (6 ½ x 52)

Figurado (6 ½ x 52)

Churchill (7 x 50)

Robusto (5 x 52)

Petite Corona (4 ½ x 46)

Country of Origin: Nicaragua

Flavor: Full

Wrapper: Ecuador Sumatran

Binder: Nicaragua

Filler: Nicaragua

While the Melanio blend falls on the full-bodied end of the strength spectrum, it is still flavorful and smooth enough to please even the most discerning cigar smoker.  The Oliva Serie V Melanio cigar’s Sumatran wrapper is silky smooth, almost veinless, reddish-brown, box-pressed, adorning a double band… quite pleasing and easy on the eyes.

Complex and quite tasty, you might catch a glimpse of some floral notes, malted nougat and hints of orange peel.  As you progress you will notice a pleasant, heavy smoke and the sweet earthiness almost dissipates as a salted nutty flavor makes its appearance.  A peppery, chocolate note lingers on the aftertaste.  The Melanio comes together beautifully from start to finish giving the smoker a very memorable experience.  While somewhat similar to the original Serie V the Jalapa tobaccos make the Melanio blend more complex and slightly more nuanced.

Created as a tribute to Melanio Oliva, who has been in the cigar industry and growing tobacco for the company since 1886, the Oliva Family takes great pride in their success in the cigar industry, and adding the Oliva Serie V Melanio is proof as well as a great way to carry on the heritage and their continued success.  While not limited edition, the Oliva Serie V Melanio is limited in production, so if you run across it, pick up a full box, as they will be hard to come by.  In our opinion the Oliva Serie V Melanio is well worth the higher price tag (ranging between $7 to $12 per stick) and is definitely the star of the show!

San Cristobal Elegancia Cigars at My Discount Cigars

RATED 91 BY CIGAR AFICIONADO!

The San Cristobal Elegancia is created by My Father Cigars’ mastermind, Don Jose Pepin Garcia, for Ashton Distributors.  For the wrapper they used a mellow and delicate Ecuadorian Connecticut tobacco, rich Nicaraguan tobaccos for the filler and binder, and a triple cap resulting in a smooth and creamy smoking experience.

San Cristobal Elegancia available in the following sizes:
Churchill (7 x 50)
Corona (5 1/2 x 46)
Imperial (6 x 52)
Pyramid (6 1/8 x 52)

Adorned with 2 bands, one of the brightly-colored San Cristobal parrot, the other noting the label of its name, “Elegancia,” the San Cristobal Elegancia is practically flawless to the eyes with no visible veins and a slightly spongy and velvety feel.  As you light up the San Cristobal Elegancia cigar you will be soothed by its smooth mildness with cedary, earthy, vanilla and oaky flavoring and a nuttiness on the finish.  But as you delve into the second half of the cigar you might notice it shift from mild to medium with leather undertones on the palate and perhaps even some cedary spice, but continuing to stay creamy and smooth to the end.  The San Cristobal Elegancia burns beautifully with a tight white ash and nearly perfect draw.

The San Cristobal Elegancia was rated 91 for the San Cristobal Elegancia Pyramid and the Robusto sizes by Cigar Aficionado.  The San Cristobal Elegancia is suitable for all types of smokers and is truly an elegant and premium smoke and rightfully deserves the well-earned and high ratings.

From Pipe Tobacco to Quality Cigars, Villiger 1888 Cigars Deconstructed

Villiger 1888 Cigars at My Discount Cigars

Villiger 1888 Cigars at My Discount Cigars

Hailing from Switzerland, Villiger 1888 cigars are the latest creation from Villiger & Sons in celebration of their 120th anniversary.  Villiger Stokkebye, known for their pipe tobacco, started out in 1888 with Jean Villiger as the mastermind behind the company.  The Villiger 1888 cigars are now developed from start to end by Heinrich Villiger, who has created himself a reputation as one of the last grand old men in the cigar industry with several decades of cigar-blending, rolling and making.

The Villiger 1888 cigar is a solidly constructed, high quality cigar that is a prime example of Villiger’s great attention to detail.  It has a clean-cut appearance… flawless looking with its seamless construction, practically veinless golden wrapper, a solid and tightly packed binder and filler, a perfectly placed double cap, and its easy-to-read band.

With its Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Dominican binder, and a multinational proprietary longfiller blend (from the Caribbean and Central America) the Villiger 1888 exudes an earthy and hay-like aroma.  It might start out with a tight draw but does loosen up about halfway in.  The burn on the Villiger 1888 is almost flawless with a tight white ash and a sharp burn line.

Villiger 1888 Torpedo at My Discount Cigars

Villiger 1888 Torpedo at My Discount Cigars

The Villiger 1888 comes in 5 sizes:
Corona (6 x 43)
Perla (4 x 40)
Robusto (4 3/4 x 50)
Short Robusto (4 x 50)
Torpedo (6 x 52)

Country of Origin: Dominican Republic
Flavor: Mild
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Proprietary Multinational Blend (Central America and Caribbean)

While the Villiger 1888 never claims to be a complex blend it is a refreshing change of pace from all the hardcore, ligero cigars on the market.  Its flavor profile will entice your palate with easy-going, mild hints of vanilla, musk and sweet, creamy notes rounding out with a smooth hint of wood.  An excellent choice for beginner smokers and for a breakfast cigar.

In the words of Heinrich Villiger, “As with all Villiger products, it is our hope that you will taste the artistry, skill and love that we put into every cigar.”

How much does YOUR Uzi weigh? My Uzi Weighs a Ton, Cigar Review

My Uzi Weighs a Ton by Drew Estate at My Discount Cigars

My Uzi Weighs a Ton by Drew Estate at My Discount Cigars

“When I do work, you get destroyed

Make all the paranoid, try to avoid
The Public Enemy seat I’ve enjoyed
This is no kid and I’m no toy boy
Rock, get up get down,
My uzi weighs a ton.”

I’ll stop embarrassing myself now and never rap again.  But in all seriousness, how many of you remember this little ditty by Public Enemy? Jonathan Drew of Drew Estate, that’s who! Collaborating with Joya de Nicaragua, Drew Estate proudly presents the “MUWAT” cigar, which is short for My Uzi Weighs A Ton, from the Subculture Studio line.

My Uzi Weighs A Ton cigar is offered in 3 hefty sizes:  The 5 x 60 (Robusto), the 6 x 60 (Toro) and the 7 x 60 (Churchill).  This is JD’s personal blend and it offers a myriad of complex flavors.  Every one of our staff members that has tried it has described it a bit differently, but some of the flavors that were consistent included leather, pepper, earth, plenty of coffee and sweet cocoa to round out this medium to full-bodied cigar bursting with flavor.

Beneath the My Uzi Weighs a Ton cigar’s San Andreas sheen, oily and slightly veiny wrapper is a layer of a Nicaraguan and Brazilian Mata Fina Oscuro long-filler which is enveloped with a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro binder and topped off with a unique and eye-catching band.

So the story of how JD came up with this catchy brand name goes like this.  When Jonathan picked up his personal favorite My Uzi Weighs a Ton vitola, the 6 x 60 Toro, he jokingly named it his “Uzi.”  Later he picked up a wheel of them and exclaimed, “Damn! My Uzi weighs a TON!!”  Which is how they got their unforgettable name. Get ready for a treat when you pick up the My Uzi Weighs a Ton cigars.  The My Uzi is packed densely and has some significant weight and girth to it, is a slow and cool burning stogie and it packs quite a nicotine punch as well as big, satisfying flavor. You’ve been warned.  BOOM! And now, be ready to be blown away! (Pun intended.)

Cuesta-Rey Centenario Tuscany Cigars at My Discount Cigars

In 1884 Angel La Madrid Cuesta, a young Spanish immigrant, opened a small cigar factory. He was soon accompanied by Peregrino Rey, and the Cuesta-Rey brand was born. Originally made in Cuba and the official cigar of Spain’s King Alfonso XIII, the Cuesta-Rey cigars are now being skillfully handmade by the famous Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic.

Offering 3 unique blends: the Cuesta-Rey Centenario, Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino and the Cuesta-Rey Cabinet Collection, each one uses only the finest aged Dominican long-fillers for the binders and fillers, and for the wrappers they use either a U.S. Connecticut shade natural wrapper, Connecticut Broadleaf for the maduro cigars, sun grown wrappers (for the Centro Fino), or Cameroon wrappers. We focus our attention to the U.S.A. Connecticut shade natural wrappers for this review. With a well-earned 90 rating from Cigar Aficionado for their Cuesta-Rey Centenario Pyramid #9 cigar, you can rest assured that with each Cuesta-Rey cigar you are smoking an exceptional quality cigar with flawless construction.

Gurkha Assassin and Gurkha Ninja Cigars Reviewed

No, this is not a new Jackie Chan Kung Fu movie, but Gurkha’s latest cigar blends by K. Hansotia & Co.

GURKHA ASSASSIN CIGARS:

The Gurkha Assassin, a Nicaraguan blend with tons of charisma, debuted in the U.S. in 2009. Blended by Paul Flores, the Assassin is a full bodied line with a distinctive and refined sweetness. Paul started off with a thick, oily and dark, extra-fermented Brazilian wrapper and complimented this firecracker with an intense blend of aged Peruvian and Nicaraguan long fillers within a Cuban-seed Dominican binder from the Cibao Valley.

Gurkha Assassin Cigars at My Discount Cigars

Gurkha Assassin Cigars at My Discount Cigars

The Gurkha Assassin is at times viewed as somewhat uneven or slightly lumpy, but do not fear, this cigar pulls through on its burn, draw and in its perfect ash. The draw on the Assassin starts off perfectly and stays open to the end. This Gurkha’s construction is quite firm to the touch and only becomes slightly soft toward the last third of the cigar.

Prepare your palate to be blown away, because the Gurkha Assassin takes no prisoners when it comes to flavor! It is a powerhouse of a cigar offering up a diverse range of flavors from wood, wheat, licorice, hearty spices and ending with a long, sweet finish and traces of charcoal. Not only are you treated to immense flavor with the Gurkha Assassin, you will want to hang on to the incredibly artistic and beautiful packaging. The time and detail that went into each Gurkha Assassin box from the raised lettering to the quality of the art will blow you away. If this were the world of cooking, Emeril Lagasse would be proclaiming his infamous line “BAM!” after tasting the Gurkha Assassin cigar!

Gurkha Vintage Shaggy and Gurkha Cellar Reserve 15 Cigar Reviews

The Gurkha Vintage Shaggy and the Gurkha Cellar Reserve are both Gurkha blends that you might have a tough time finding in local cigar shops but an equally hard time finding online as well.

GURKHA CELLAR RESERVE 15:

Gurkha Cellar Reserve Koi at My Discount Cigars

Gurkha Cellar Reserve Koi at My Discount Cigars

This more rare Gurkha line got its name due to the 15 year old Dominican tobacco used as its filler. The remainder of the cigar is blended with an oily 1998 Dominican Criollo wrapper and a fine Dominican Olor binder. To round out this unique blend, Kaizad Hansotia used a small percentage of Nicaraguan tobacco as well. This is what gives it a little kick. The lovely Gurkha Cellar Reserve cigars are dressed with a band that is printed with ample information about the cigar and the cigars are then housed 20 to a unique wooden box that resembles a maturing wine barrel.

Medium to full-bodied, the Gurkha Cellar Reserve 15 is wrapped in an oily, chestnut brown, delicate wrapper with barely any apparent veins on it. It’s constructed and rolled evenly, avoiding any soft spots. Just as you might suspect from looking at its band and the box it comes in, the flavor profile is reminiscent of oak wood and red wine tannins with a soft white pepper on the retrohale.

GURKHA VINTAGE SHAGGY:

What do you think of when you see the Gurkha Vintage Shaggy cigar? It reminded me of a freshly hand-rolled cigar that a master cigar roller just rolled only for me. In this line of Gurkha’s K. Hansotia created a surprising end, literally, when he created the Gurkha Vintage Shaggy cigar with its open-ended shaggy foot. It is Gurkha’s newest addition to their growing and creative lines. the Gurkha Vintage Shaggy is a medium-bodied blend using an 8-year-old Dominican wrapper and a 5-year-old Dominican and Nicaraguan filler and binder.

Rich, Chewy, Toasty and Flavorful – Cigar Review of A. Fuente’s Sun Grown Blend

The next time you are in the market to restock your humidor, take note of the Arturo Fuente Sungrown blend. Each A. Fuente Sun Grown is blended with their exclusive Ecuadorian sun-grown wrappers (which are distinguished from the other blends by the black ribbon/band at the foot of each cigar as opposed to a green or red band like the other blends have). The Arturo Fuente Sun Growns are naturally sweeter (like most maduros) than other Fuente lines, yet their wrapper is lighter in shade. The Fuente family utilizes the A. Fuente Gran Reserva’s binder and filler tobaccos, with the exception of the dark, Ecuadorian sun-grown wrapper leaf, to assemble the tasty A. Fuente Sungrown blend.

Arturo Fuente Sungrown at My Discount Cigars

Arturo Fuente Sungrown at My Discount Cigars

As you smoke your way through the Arturo Fuente Sun Grown cigar you will be pleasantly surprised by its natural sweetness which is imparted on your palate, complemented by a medium-bodied, balanced and smooth richness. The Fuentes treat all their cigar lines with the highest standards and care, including the Sun Grown line, utilizing the highest quality vintage tobaccos alongside impeccable hand workmanship guarantees a rich, flavorful smoking experience with tantalizing aromas each time you light up.

The A. Fuente Sun Grown is an oily, toothy and stout cigar exuding chewy leather, notes of earthiness and a touch of spice and pepper on its finish. If you pay close attention you might even pick up some cocoa, toastiness and vanilla. It will grow in strength as you smoke your way through it. They are each individually wrapped in cedar with a black band at the foot. All in all the A. Fuente Sungrown is not for the lighthearted as it is a fairly rich and fuller smoke, but there is no denying that they are VERY well crafted. Kudos to Arturo Fuente for bringing their A-game each and every time. Do yourself and your palate a favor and pick up an A. Fuente Sungrown today!

Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino Sungrown, the King’s Cigar

At one time they were rolled in Cuba and now they are handmade in the Tabacalera A. Fuente factory in the Dominican Republic, the Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino Sungrown cigars deliver a flavor-filled, medium-bodied smoke and a solid burn as well as construction. It is the official cigar of Spain’s King Alfonso XIII and is world-renowned for their craftsmanship, taste and high quality. The rich Sumatra-seed Sungrown wrapper (which is grown on the Oliva family’s farm in the super fertile Quevedo region of Ecuador) is hand-picked and selected from the “Centro Fino” (which means “fine center”) region of the tobacco plant which is what makes this cigar sing!

Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino Sungrown Cigars at My Discount Cigars

Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino Sungrown Cigars at My Discount Cigars

The Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino blend features a 5-year-aged Dominican ligero filler tobacco, a Dominican binder and then are aged in Spanish cedar-lined cabinets which ensures the continuation of their rich flavor developing to their fullest capacity. The Cuesta Rey Centro Fino might even surprise you with its natural sweetness laced with a nutty and woody base and an underlying hint of rich, cedar and oak flavors. The strength picks up in the final third of the cigar and the sweetness remains consistent all the way through. Because it does not require to be relit you know the construction is solid. The Centro Finos come with 2 elaborately detailed bands, but as you smoke your way through the final third it is recommended to remove the first band.

Available Sizes (Except for the Captiva Tubos which comes in boxes of 20, 5 or 1, the rest of the sizes are available in boxes of 10 or samplers of a single stick):

Deconstructing Arturo Fuente’s Finest, The Don Carlos Blend

The Don Carlos blend is hands down Fuente’s finest line to date. The Arturo Fuente Don Carlos is named after its legendary creator and the patriarch of the Fuente family, Don Carlos Fuente, Sr. When he was creating this line, Carlos Fuente, Sr. blended rare, vintage, hand-selected tobaccos, aged upward of ten years, and flawless African Cameroon wrappers, which makes this smoke equally appealing to both the eyes and the palate.

Arturo Fuente Don Carlos at My Discount Cigars

Arturo Fuente Don Carlos at My Discount Cigars

The A. Fuente Don Carlos is a cigar that will not put you to sleep.  While it may not be a powerhouse per se, it is brewing with a myriad of complex flavors.  Dressed in an oily, sheen and toothy Cameroon wrapper which produces an even draw, and nutty, sweet, earthy flavors with hints of cedar, spice and an orange zest on its long, creamy finish you will become a convert by the time you are through smoking this beauty.  The Don Carlos cigar is most certainly a harmonious and well-balanced smoke with and exudes a perfectly white ash, solid construction and burn.

Due to the fact that the A. Fuente Don Carlos blend uses such select tobaccos, they are released in limited quantities and rate as the finest tobacco that is rolled at the Tabacalera A. Fuente establishment in the Dominican Republic.  Even in today’s market condition of over-supply Fuente cigars are millions of cigars backordered across the nation.  Do not hesitate to try a box of the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos so you can experience first-hand why there is a universal agreement that Fuente cigars are the very best cigar you can buy. You will not be disappointed.

A Review of the Gurkha Grand Reserve Louis XIII Cigar – The Height of Elegance and Luxury!

Gurkha Grand Reserve Louis XIII Cigars at My Discount Cigars

Gurkha Grand Reserve Louis XIII Cigars at My Discount Cigars

When you light up a Gurkha Grand Reserve Louis XIII cigar you are truly in for a treat. The Gurkha Cigar Company has been making, what I would call, the worlds most distinctive cigars for over 120 years.  Every Gurkha Grand Reserve cigar is infused in the legendary Louis XIII Cognac by Remy Martin. Just to give you an idea, a bottle of this elusive cognac typically sells for $1,200 or more. This process does not use dipping, spraying or injection, it is a secretive and truly unique process that results in elegant and extraordinary flavors. The Gurkha Grand Reserve cigars have been rated as the finest cigars in the world by 3 magazines (Opulence Magazine, Departures Magazine, the Magazine by American Express that reviews all things ultra-luxurious, including the seal of approval from the Robb Report), and when you taste the Grand Reserve, you will know why. The flavors of the Gurkha Grand Reserve are silky smooth and luxuriously creamy.

Each Gurkha Grand Reserve cigar is elegantly presented in a glass crystal tube which is hand-dipped in copper-colored wax for a one-of-a-kind presentation. (Please note that these cigars are shipped in bundles of 15, not in boxes, and the stands are not included.) The Gurkha “Grand Reserve” is the flagship brand of The Gurkha Cigar Company. It is handmade from the finest tobaccos: using premium, Cuban Piloto-seed Dominican fillers and binders and 5-year aged U.S. Connecticut shade wrappers (which are fermented an additional 7 months, which is longer than most Cuban cigars) which give the mild-to-medium-bodied Gurkha Grand Reserve Churchill a creamy, rich flavor with just a hint of spice and promises you a pleasantly light finish that you wish would linger on and on.

Gurkha Grand Reserve Louis XIII Torpedo Maduro Cigars at My Discount Cigars

Gurkha Grand Reserve Louis XIII Torpedo Maduro Cigars at My Discount Cigars

Some of the Gurkha lines are incredibly rare and limited. Just so you have an idea, they only release 10 boxes of 20 cigars each year of the His Majesty’s Reserve, which sell between $9,000 to $10,000, IF you are lucky enough to get your hands on a box of them! As I have mentioned to several of my customers in Colorado, if I had to only smoke one cigar for the rest of my life, the Gurkha Grand Reserve would be that cigar.

Cigar Review of Arturo Fuente Hemingway Cigars: Perfecting the Perfecto

If you are a true cigar enthusiast you might know how difficult it is to craft a Perfecto cigar.  The Fuente family are true masters (and one of the only ones left) that still make the Perfecto cigars, and not just one but an entire line of them!  The Arturo Fuente Hemingway line is a truly special and very unique line.  Between the 1920s and 1940s the Perfecto shaped cigars were quite popular.  But sadly the masters responsible for creating the Perfecto cigars either retired or passed away.  In the early 1980s the Fuente family revived this old-world style craft and tradition and we have them to thank for keeping it alive.  They have such a love, appreciation and talent for the rarity that is the craft of the Perfecto cigar.

Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story at My Discount Cigars

Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story at My Discount Cigars

Cigar Aficionado has been rating the 8 different Hemingway sizes in the 90s since their debut in 1983.  The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Best Seller and the Hemingway Classic have both earned a whopping 93!  This line is a true medium-bodied blend using exquisite vintage Dominican filler tobaccos and delicate African Cameroon wrappers.  Their maduro wrapper is the newest addition to the Hemingway line and because they are in such great demand they might be harder to come across.  The Fuentes only produce limited batches of 75 Hemingway cigars per day.  They are then aged for half a year in cedar-lined aging rooms which enhances their flavors and aromas.  The unique shape of the Arturo Fuente Hemingway cigars is a figurado-shape with a finely crafted “nipple” as its foot, a subtle taper and a perfect symmetry.  When you light one up your palate is treated to complex flavors ranging from spices, toastiness, cedar, sweet wood, and hints of orange peel, honey and even coffee undertones.

The Arturo Fuente Hemingways have been captivating cigar smokers since 1983 with their flawless construction, white ash, delicious flavor profile, and just overall pleasing to the eyes as well as the palate.  Now that you are more aware of how truly unique the Hemingways are and how much work goes into perfecting the Perfecto vitola, hopefully you won’t let another moment pass without trying an Arturo Fuente Hemingway cigar today… we are certain you will become as hooked to them as we have!

C&C Cigars: Affordable, Everyday Cigars for the Discerning Smoker

You might not have heard of C&C cigars as they are hard to find and are fairly new on the market, but you should not dismiss them as they offer 3 different blends that will satisfy just about everyone’s taste and are affordable to satisfy everyone’s pocket! C&C cigars, headquartered in Bradenton, Florida, are the creation of Cusano’s, Joe Chiusano. With their debut in 2011 at the IPCPR Trade Show, it is their team’s latest brand which was created as the “Everyday Cigar” for the smoker who enjoys lighting up daily, yet is affordable. It is not an overpowering cigar yet offers a medium-bodied profile which can be enjoyed any time of day either before a meal, with a meal or after a meal. The C&C offers 3 wonderful and unique blends, Connecticut, Corojo and the LRMD (Limited Release Maduro).

C&C Cigars at My Discount Cigars

CONNECTICUT: The C&C Connecticut blend is the mildest of the 3. Visually pleasing with its golden brown Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, it is equally pleasing on the palate with the flavorful Cuban-seed Dominican long-fillers and binder that take this cigar to the next level with added depth and complexity. The outcome is a smooth and mild smoking experience leaving notes of nuts and creamy tobacco on your palate.

COROJO: The Corojo line was created as a tribute to the classic Cuban cigar with an emphasis on capturing the essence of “Old Havana.” Hand-rolled in the Dominican Republic the Corojo line utilizes a reddish-brown Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper enveloping a Dominican binder, and in the heart of the blend, Cuban-seed Dominican long-fillers. The end result is a medium-bodied, smooth stogie with a long finish and a tinge of spice. Always satisfying, certainly complex and hearty and within everyone’s budget.

C&C Corojo Cigars at My Discount Cigars

LRMD:  The Limited Release Maduro is C&C’s premium boxed cigar line. It is their medium to full bodied cigar using fermented maduro wrapper along with copious amounts of Dominican Ligero tobacco. The LRMD is certainly more bold than the other 2 blends surprising you with notes of espresso, leather and a slight sweetness finishing off with a rich and long finish.

The C&C trio blends are available in 3 sizes: Churchill, Robusto and Toro, at very reasonable prices.  The C&C experience will leave you satisfied from start to end, because it was designed with a discerning palate in mind.

A Review of the C&C Corojo Churchill Cigar by Katmancross

Filler: Dominican Cuban Seed

Binder: Dominican

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Corojo

Size: Churchill 7 x 50

Retail Price: $70-$80 for a box of 18

c and c unlit 1

C & C Cigars debuted at the 2011 IPCPR Trade Show. The brouhaha about this cigar is that Joe Chiusano wanted to present a high premium cigar at budget prices. A lot of people have gone down this road….with not much success. The biggest issue is usually a cigar that takes months and months of humidor aging before it has any character. And we guys are an impatient lot. We want instant gratification. We want to be able to remove the cello from the stick, light it up, and go, “Ahhhh…..”

c and c unlit cap

Well the C&C Corojo Churchill comes close. I bought a box. This was not a sampler provided by the manufacturer. I opened and smoked a Churchill on the same day it arrived. I tasted great potential but a not ready for prime time cigar…quite yet. I tried again in a couple of weeks and magic had happened. A spicy, complex cigar arose from the ashes of the UPS truck.

And then two weeks later, Voila! An excellent cigar that would match any $10 stick I can think of.

Chiusano and his ex-Davidoff team of Jeff Aronson, Maurice Tisseur, and my new buddy, Shane Hays….cooked up 3 blends that are made in the DR. The C&C line, beside the Corojo, is the Maduro and the Connecticut.

The C&C Corojo Churchill  is somewhat rustic looking. It has a nice orange-ish hue with lots of small veins. It has the traditional Cuban triple cap. The prelight aroma has a slightly sweet graham cracker/manure smell to it. At the foot, it intensifies.

I am smoking a 5 week humidor aged sample. At light up, I get a blast of spice and graham cracker. The first puff deals out some complexity immediately. There is a tad bit of oak, leather, and a red pepper tang.

Because I am smoking a C&C Corojo Churchill, the complexity changes slowly as compared to a Robusto. But that’s what I enjoy….the slow, surprising changes in taste and flavor profile.

About an inch in, the spice is tamped down by a sweet molasses and then bread….no, toast. Yes, you can taste toast in a cigar. It has a long finish that has me smacking my lips.

The C&C Corojo Churchill cigar is a hearty medium body. It starts there and ends there making it a perfect first cigar of the day or a nice change up from the very full body cigars I smoke.

Throughout the saga of the stick, which ended up being 90 minutes…the flavor profile changes oh so delicately and with delightful subtlety.

I’m down to the last third and I’m being pummeled by flavors. The spice is a delight. I am a big spice fan. I love the Pete Johnson, Garcia, Bradley, A.Castro stuff. They smack you with pepper. I love that.

The spiciness though in this fine stick never bowls you over. The C&C Corojo Churchill is solid. All of the earlier flavors have developed a maturity and depth. They intermingle and swirl around each other right to the end.

I predict big things for this company. Especially since the price point is ridiculous at $4 per stick.

I cannot think of any other $4 stick that comes close to the C&C Corojo Churchill.

Good on ya’ boys at C & C.

c and c nub
